We’ll cut to the chase on this one: stop giving your ass so much power. That’s the message behind Laura Banks and Janette Barber’s new book, Embracing Your Big Fat Ass: An Owner’s Manual, which is spawning a revolution to embrace your backside.
Banks and Barber know a thing or two about turning conventional wisdom on its head – they wrote the tongue and cheek response to the rigid dating bible The Rules. Their’s was (obviously) called Breaking the Rules. Even former model Tyra Banks is catching on. Banks and Barber went on The Tyra Show to show her how. Question is when will you?
Their book and the fast-growing movement (move over Skinny Bitch!) is irreverent, funny, and poignant. At moments, they manage to be all three. For example, they write: “Being a perfectionist about your weight can really make you a threat to yourself, your pets, and others—especially when you weigh yourself in the morning naked and tired, holding a cup of coffee.” Have you embraced? If not, here’s what sealed the deal for us: “You cannot be likeable, funny, engaging, interesting or even worthy of a second date, much less a relationship, if all you can think about the whole night is whether or not your ass falls within some socially acceptable dimension.”
