Spotlight On: The Best Body Rub Down in Upstate New York!
Our Bloggers - Deenie - Beauty Cents

Welcome to a new division of Beauty Cents!  This is the first of many "Spotlight On" posts that I hope you will enjoy.  I love to travel and between the upcoming weddings I'm attending and trips I've been dying to take, I thought it would be fun to incorporate my fantastic finds across the country into blogs!  After all, in the next few months alone I'll be traveling to Mississippi, Memphis, Florida, Nantucket, Chapel Hill and San Francisco (and that's not including the places I've already been)!  So, to kick off Beauty Cents "Spotlight On," I bring you to a place not too far from New York City:  the cozy, college town of Ithaca, New York.

Ithaca is known for many things: it's home to both Cornell and Ithaca College, its overwhelming support of an organic and natural lifestyle, an overwhelming amount of bumper-stickers saying so, and luscious, green scenery (After all, Ithaca is gorges.  No, but really, it's a very pretty town).  And it was in Ithaca, of all places, that I received the best body rub down, excuse me, best platonic body rub down of my life.  Satori Day Spa and Salon, located in the Village Green, is a zen kind of place from the minute you arrive.   The sunlight is pouring in through the front windows onto the cozy brown couch and chairs, and despite the hairdryers blowing and the stylists chatting, the air still remains calm and peaceful against the hum of electricity.  When I arrive I notice that the salon sells both Bumble and Bumble and Bliss products, not to mention Goldwell and Institut Esthederm.  I am very pleased by this.  After sipping water from a stemless wine glass for a few minutes, I am invited back for my massage.  Let me preface this by saying that I've had a number of massages in my day and they've all been "fine."  In fact, I had a very nice massage at  Rustler Lodge in Alta, Utah this year, but there was still something missing.  It just wasn't enough "mmppff" for me.  Dancing taught me how to be in tune with my body, how to feel my weight in a place, and how to recognize the shifts and changes made in that space, so I'd like to think I'm a good judge when it comes to the art of body rubs.  Often these massages I'd had felt like nothing more than a pat on the back.  Until there was Alison.  Indeed, Alison Ferris, may be one of my favorite people to date, as she is the winner of the Best Massage Deenie's Ever Had Award.  I might drive the 4 hours to Ithaca just to assure that kind of consistency!  My massge, a 90 minute full body massage, was worth every penny.  All 90 minutes were engulfed by me drooling on the table or resisting the kind of comatose slumber that massages encourage, as I was too afraid to miss a minute.  From my scalp, to my earlobes, to my knees, to my feet, Alison worked her massage magic.  I don't know if I've felt that relaxed since I had my widom teeth removed.

But Satori offers a wide variety of services, other than just massages.  They have a full service menu ranging from hair, nails, waxing, facials and body treatments (including something called Crystal Glow Scrub and Rose Mud Wrap!  Sounds sweet).  Oh, and there is a Men's Menu as well!  So maybe you could talk your man into finally ditching the dead skin on his feel with a Foot Treatment?  Or, a Beard and Mustache Shaping; that sounds fun.  Owner, Christi Boothe, certainly knew how to please the masses when she opened Satori.  They can accomodate an individual with just about any service he or she could possibly need, and offer packages for spa parties and weddings as well.  And did I mention they sell both Bliss and Bumble and Bumble???  I could only dream of getting locked up in this place for a few weeks.  So, if you live in the area, or you just happen to be passing by, stop by Satori and see for yourself.
