The World of Woot
Daily Cents - Entertainment Cents

Woot.com started as an employee-store/marketing testing place for electronics. Now it has taken on a life of its own.

What the site offers you in discounts and suspense (what will they put up today???), it lacks in bells and whistles. Yes, they’ll ship your items within two to three days, but forget about backorders, notifications, guarantees, or live customer service.

You’ll be happy to weather those slight inconveniences when your computer, ipod, camera, or speakers cost half of what it would at Best Buy.

Need Help With Weekend Plans ? Just AskSunday
Daily Cents - Entertainment Cents

You need a weekend just to plan your weekend. By the time you’ve thought about making dinner reservations, booking a spa appointment, reserving court time, or orbitz-ing weekend getaway plans, everything is booked or the last options left are so unappealing and/or expensive that you’d rather just stay home.

AskSunday gives busy people, like you, the resources of a 24/7 personal assistant, travel agent, and project assistant.

So on Tuesday, when you have the idea that you’d like to hop on a plane on Friday or that you’d like to book a massage on Saturday, you just e-mail or call AskSunday.

Beach Read Pick #1 - I Was Told There'd Be Cake
Daily Cents - Entertainment Cents

Editor’s  Note: Happy Summer! Yes, we know we are one day early, but to celebrate the season of sand, sun, water and fun, we are rolling out our beach must-read series of book reviews. So grab your beach towel, sunglasses and relax with a great book....oh, and don't forget the sunscreen.

I Was Told There’d Be Cake is Sloan Crosley’s debut book of short stories. And with it, she’s made a Barak Obama-type splash into the literary world. She’s been compared to everyone from David Sedaris to Nora Ephron, Carrie Bradshaw and Dorothy Parker.

The fifteen essays, all infused with a subtle humor that sort of creeps up on you, are about disappointment, perfunctory social obligations, awkward and unfortunate moments, and sanity.

The Grown-up Care Package - SomethingStore.com
Daily Cents - Entertainment Cents

There are some things from our childhood we would never like to think about again, like braces and being tormented in gym class. Then there are, however, markers of that pre driver’s license period that we wouldn’t mind resurrecting in a more adult form, particularly “the care package.”

Somethingstore.com is where people over the age of 12 can go to find the grown-up version of the care package.  For $10 (free shipping in the US), you’ll get an item selected randomly from the many things in their inventory.

Just like in the good old days of anticipating care packages at sleep-away camp, it was fun wondering what was in the package.

Are You Ready To Play?
Daily Cents - Entertainment Cents

It’s no longer an old boys’ table, thanks to Lauren Failla, the founder of HighHeelsPokerTour.com. Lauren started playing poker in college and, like many poker players, was smitten by the action and the intensity of the game.

To get a piece of the fast growing demographic of women poker players, Laura started a site to aggregate all the female poker-playing talent.

You can sign up for satellite tournaments ($75 buy in) or feature tournaments that have buy-ins in the $200 to $300 range.
