Wow O Wow - What A Website!

WowowowWow o wow is right. Or at least that’s what our reaction was to wowowow.com – a site for women who don’t want a Facebook page, but still need a place on the Internet to call home.

Wowowow.com is the brainchild of some of the biggest movers and shakers of their generation.

No Humour Please, We're British

Reuters reports that an announcer for London’s venerable subway, called the Tube by locals and visitors alike, was fired ("sacked" in Brit speak) for playing fast and loose with the public announcements.

In the same smooth, plumy tones that warned passengers to “mind the gap,” Emma Clarke added such phrases as “Would passengers filling in answers on their Sudokus please accept that they are just crosswords for the unimaginative and are not in any way more impressive just because they contain numbers." (To hear the announcements in question, go here.)

Subway authorities were not amused – even if passengers were – and Emma lost her job. Or as Transport for London put it, “London Underground is sorry to have to announce that further contracts for Miss Clarke are experiencing severe delays."

Reunited and It Feels So ... Lucrative

Breaking up -- and staying that way -- is so hard to do, at least in the music business. Why? Well, there are millions of reasons and all of them green: as in the money.

Reunited bands, some of whom broke up before many of the prospective concert attendees were born, have rushed into the vacuum caused by the dearth of new recording acts.

Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth are the most recent rockers to announce they have put aside their differences for the sake of the music. To celebrate their make-up, the band Van Halen, with lead singer Roth, plans a 40-city tour.

Other reuniters rumored to be touring this summer include:

* Police
* Genesis
* Rage Against the Machine
* Smashing Pumpkins

iPod News

iPod sales are making Apple's profits sing. The company sold 5.4 million iPods last quarter and 4.5 million the quarter before (which included Christmas). Apparently, those 10 million iPods are not just being worn by the younger generation. Fashionistas love them so much that Gucci designed a carrying case for them -- to the tune of $195.

And if you've already grown tired of your current iPod, Apple has a new recycling program that lets you trade it for a new iPod at a 10% discount.

If the iPod's speakers are too small for your listening pleasure, here's a larger alternative: Six-foot tall speakers designed by an Australian company, HornZaccoustic. For $30,000, you can own these hand-hewn speakers, but you'll have to whistle during the three months it takes to build them. Sorry, no Gucci cases for these -- yet.
