Glasgow - A Brit Different
Ellen Barone

If you're picturing stiff-upper-lip Britishness, think again. Urban Glasgow, with its dynamic music and arts scene, trendy cafés and shopping galore, flaunts a hip creative vibe and flashy commercial presence.

Without a doubt Glasgow is one of Scotland's friendliest cities. There's a certain levity of spirit and genuine warmth among Glaswegians that makes visitors immediately feel welcome - even if you can’t understand a single rapid-fire, heavily-accented word.

Boasting a diverse offering of museums and galleries, restaurants and pubs, architecture and shopping, this European Cultural Centre and vibrant University town has style.

Planning a Glasgow getaway? I've already travel-tested it for you. Here's my travel guide of where to stay and play.

Boobs Are Boobs - Whether Republican or Democrat?
Kerry Gladden

It has been a quick summer, and I figured this was a good time to resume my blogging duties since there are a plethora of things to chat about. The hot topic no matter where you turn this week is John McCain's pick of Sarah Palin as his running mate on the Republican ticket. Now let me say up front that I am a card-carrying Democrat. But I have always fancied myself to be one who could appreciate both sides of the Republican/Democrat argument. For instance, I have always thought John McCain to be an OK Republican - not sure I would ever vote for him, but he doesn't give me the complete willies like George W.

So here is my question to the McCain camp regarding their "maverick" move in picking Palin as his running mate: Do you think that Republican boobs = Democrat boobs?

You may be asking yourself what the heck I mean, so let me explain.

POLL: What do you think of Sarah Palin?
Kate
John McCain has announced his running mate as Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.  After months of McCain's criticism that Barack Obama is too young and inexperienced, he selects a partner who is even younger, and too many, even more inexperienced.  CNN'S Jack Cafferty commented that she comes from Alaska, a state of "thirteen people and some caribou."  That's too harsh though...  on Alaska.

Is this a desperate attempt to lure Hillary fans, even though Palin's politics are more conservative?  Or is this beyond McCain's ticket, and in fact exactly what we need?  Is she also fit to run this country in the event that McCain's health should fail?

Metallic Makeover
Deenie - Beauty Cents

It goes without saying that any mention of Bobbi Brown to my boyfriend will elicit a comment about that marriage to crazy Whitney or the chorus of “My Prerogative.”  If you’re reading this, you probably know that the Bobbi Brown I speak of is 1.) Not married to Whitney Houston, 2.) Is not a recording artist, and 3.) Is not a man.  At one point and time the Bobby my boyfriend refers to may have worn shiny clothing.  But my Bobbi is creating shiny shades of shadow.

Probiotics For Your Gut and Your Health
Patty Chavez

One of the more common health buzzwords in preventative medicine is probiotics.  I’m sure most people have heard the word by now and may assume it must mean something about the gut and yogurt.  Here’s a quick synopsis for those of us who might like a quick review:

It all began in the early 20th century when a Russian scientist reported that certain Bulgarian peasants were living well over 100 due to fermented milk products such as yogurt.  Probiotics are live microorganisms that are similar to the good microorganisms found in our gut, hence “good bacteria”.  This “good bacteria” can be added to foods or can occur naturally in certain yogurts, fermented dairy products including soy products, juices, and supplements.  For instance, lactobacillus acidophilus in yogurt has been attributed to multiple health benefits…this reminds me of the old yogurt treatment for a vaginal yeast infection…messy but an option.
