Galanis Got Me
Deenie - Beauty Cents

I’m not a push-over.  Really.  I’m not…normally.  I understand the concept of sacrificing “things” in order to live.  I have lived frugally, and I can so “no.”  I promise.  But in this particular instance, I just didn’t want to.  Last week a friend invited me to a trunk show at this phenomenal Midtown East apt. with a phenomenal view of the city, with phenomenal items for purchase.  Hello! Skinny Jeans, Betty Badd Couture, and Susanna Galanis were all present, and I assure you, that I went with every intention of not purchasing.

The Real Connection Between Brain Tumors and Your Cell Phone
Patty Chavez

A few days ago, it happened again..was it just a coincidence or is the universe trying to tell me something?

It started with a conversation I had with a patient early one morning.  He was explaining a new business he had recently become involved with.  He is selling a device that attaches to a cell phone in order to avert electrical waves that are suspected of causing brain tumors.  It sounded interesting until he mentioned “multilevel marketing”….ah-ha…of course I warned him of the old pyramid scheme.  I listened and respectively agreed to read up on this product when I had time.

Later that afternoon, I happened to have a discussion with a doctor who works in our office.  I’m not sure what type of doctor she prefers to be called as her name is followed by multiple letters that signify she’s a brainiac.  She is our nutritionist slash biochemist whom we rely on to “dumb it down” so we can understand the mechanism of action in certain supplements.  For whatever reason, we came upon the subject of cell phones and she commented that we would be seeing more brain cancer due to the increase usage of cell phones.

Stila Step Up
Deenie - Beauty Cents

Ha ha, hee hee, whoo whooo….whoooo.  Ok, now that I’ve amused myself once more with a Stila play on words, I can tell get down to the real deal.  Stila cosmetics, one of my favorite brands, has just launched their limited edition Front Row Look palette from their Backstage Beauty Collection.  Available at www.stilacosmetics.com, 10% of the proceeds from Front Look will be donated to the Step Up Women’s Network, a national non-profit membership organization dedicated to strengthening
community resources for women and girls.

BLACKBERRY, CRACKBERRY: I’M HOOKED
Gizmo Girl
Verizon BlackBerry 8830

Once upon a time my basic needs were simple: food, water, travel… Now, I can’t live without my Verizon BlackBerry? What the heck happened?

24/7 wireless e-mail connectivity, worldwide voice and data coverage, GPS navigation − THAT’S what happened. They don’t call it CrackBerry for nothing.

I used to snicker at the corporate drones tethered by their techy-umbilical cords to bosses and work, while I, the foot-loose freelancer, jetted off to some remote destination with a flippant “catch-you-when-I-get-back” e-mail auto-response and phone message.

That was pre-BlackBerry. Today, you’ll find me right there with the corporate schmucks, checking e-mail and thumbing back responses before the plane has even pulled up to the jetway. I hardly recognize myself.

But just when I’m ready to go cold turkey, I’ll need to Google a hotel phone number, e-mail the airport shuttle with delayed flight details, find my way to an important meeting with audible turn-by-turn directions, or score a dream assignment from the beach in Rio just because I was able to dash off a quick “I’ll do it!” on the BlackBerry, and I’m hooked all over again.

Sound familiar? To keep the BlackBerry scales tipped to technical god-send rather than compulsive addiction, follow these simple Rules to Blackberry By at Forbes.com.

What You Should Know About UVB
Deenie - Beauty Cents

Summer is coming to a close and while it may still be hot as Hell, wherever you are, you know that Fall is just around the corner.  Or maybe around the block.  But it’s on the way.  In the next few weeks I am excited to say I’ll be informing you beauty savvy readers of some delicious new trends for Fall.  However, I couldn’t let summer slip away without telling you one more thing…one more time.  Keep wearing your sunscreen!!!!!  Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know you’re tired of hearing me preach about it, but I came across this article on Science Daily.com in which the first paragraph alone scared the %&*$ out of me.  Do the words “burn…ultraviolet…and deadly consequences” not frighten you???
